The Enneagram: motivations and evidence
The Enneagram organizes stories about motivation into nine patterns. A result can help you examine a familiar habit, but it cannot establish a hidden core fear or a permanent psychological type.

A systematic review of 104 independent samples found mixed evidence for Enneagram reliability and validity. Secondary ideas such as wings and movement between types had little research support.

What the research review found
Hook and colleagues reviewed 104 independent samples. The evidence for reliability and validity was mixed. Some findings connected Enneagram scales with other personality constructs, but the review did not establish all the model’s claims. It found little research support for secondary features, including wings and intertype movement. Read the systematic review.
Mixed evidence is not the same as a demonstrated accuracy rate for this app. Our custom questionnaire has its own items and scoring, so results from another Enneagram measure cannot be transferred to it.
What wings and arrows mean here
A wing is one of the two adjacent types in the framework. For a leading type 4, those are 3 and 5. Mazarion selects whichever adjacent group has the higher score; it does not independently verify that you have a distinct psychological subtype.
Our growth and stress paths come from predefined type descriptions. Treat them as suggested themes to consider, not predictions that your behavior must move along an arrow when your circumstances change.
Read the ranking with curiosity
The quiz has forty-five items, five per pattern. The largest total becomes the leading type. Close totals mean the ranking should receive less weight in your reflection. A tie still produces an ordered result through the software’s fixed ordering.
One behavior, several possible reasons
You volunteered to organize a gathering. Were you seeking connection, enjoying planning, wanting recognition, or simply the person with time available? A type description cannot answer that for you.
