The twelve zodiac signs
The zodiac is a circle of twelve signs. Each offers a symbolic vocabulary, and every chart contains the whole circle. Your Sun sign is one place to begin exploring it.
Signs are equal sections of a circle
Mazarion uses the tropical zodiac, which divides 360° into twelve equal signs starting at the March equinox point. A sign is a coordinate section, not the outline of the constellation whose name it shares. See NASA’s explanation of signs and constellations for that distinction.
When someone asks for your zodiac sign, they usually mean the sign containing the Sun at birth. The Moon and planets have their own sign placements. A person with a Taurus Sun can have a Gemini Moon; the labels refer to different bodies in the same chart.
We avoid assigning exact signs from generic date ranges here. Near a boundary, use your birth year, time, and timezone in the free chart calculator. A sign boundary is a precise longitude; an uncertain birth time can leave the placement uncertain.
Two ways to group the signs
Western astrology groups signs by element and modality. The elements—fire, earth, air, and water—organize symbolic themes. The modalities—cardinal, fixed, and mutable—describe initiating, sustaining, and adapting. These are interpretive categories, not physical ingredients or measured traits. For example, Aries combines fire with the cardinal mode. A reflection can connect action with starting something. Leo combines fire with the fixed mode, inviting a different question about maintaining an expression or commitment. Neither combination says how a person must behave.
